So…
This is my first blog post while traveling. Kind of odd, since I am a self-styled travel blogger, huh? I’ll be frank: Paso Robles is my favorite place to wine taste.I am a wino and have so admitted on many occasions. There is something special about this central-California gem. It’s still quaint, charming and relatively unspoiled by the snobs who frequent other wine producing areas. The wines are exquisite. The Reds, especially the Syrah produced in the region, are among the finest I have ever enjoyed. The restaurants are top notch, as well.
Our trip began this morning at 9:30; after Los Angeles traffic has died down enough for the drive to be pleasant. Because of the recent rains, the hills were a verdant and lush emerald green and resembled the softest of carpets. I wished I could roll down the endless folds of greenery.
We arrived in Paso a few hours later and headed straight to #Daou Winery, always a favorite. We drank in the magnificent view and the delicious wines. It is one of the most breathtaking wineries to visit when longing to savor the natural beauty of the region.
We didn’t want to leave, but wanted to make it to #Herman Story before the day ended. Herman Story is in a store front ‘across the tracks’ from downtown Paso. The wines are sublime and it is a small production winery. Because I am a club member and the tasting room had closed by the time we arrived, I was escorted through the back door and through the bottling room. A few special wines later and a few decisions made as to my next shipment desires, I was off to check into the lovely Inn Paradiso. What a place! Recommend by Sunset Magazine (I am a huge fan) as a ‘hidden gem’, it does not disappoint. Lovely appointments in the room and a luscious bed to relax on, led to an impromptu afternoon nap nestled in fluffy down and light streaming through a side window. Ahh, heaven.
