The news is wonderful today. The US Department of Treasury and Commerce announced historic changes slated to take effect n Friday, January 16, 2015. You will no longer need a specific license to travel to the island and will now be allowed to use credit cards – though there aren’t many places that will accept them or that actually have a credit card machine – let alone a computer. It’s a mixed-bag of excitement and melancholy that I am feeling, as we embark upon this exciting, yet untrodden territory. I fear Cuba will become a tourist trap, like Cancun. I want to protect its culture, quaintness and unique character. But change has come. There is no stopping it. No turning back. I’m sure that many things will be better for the people and the economy. I’m glad I was able to experience it when is was still unspoiled.
