The Collectors Council of The Bowers Museum is pleased to announce an exclusive 9 night journey to the magical island of Cuba. Embrace its love of art, culture and music through its museums, galleries, and concert halls. Walk along its cobbled lanes and absorb the many layers of Cuba’s storied history.
Together, we will explore the bustling streets of Havana as seen through the eyes of its people. We will visit Ernest Hemingway’s Finca La Vigia Estate, located on a hilltop in the rural village of San Francisco de Paula, just southeast of the City of Havana. The home has recently been the subject of a massive preservation effort by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and has been left exactly as the author left it in 1961. At his home, you will be able to see the famous sportfishing boat, the Pilar, the pool where Ava Gardner famously went skinny-dipping and the collection of valuable art maintained by this Pulitzer-prize winning author. The Finca Vigia estate and the fishing village of Cojimar are considered the most significant locales for those interested in the history of Ernest Hemmingway.
We will travel to the colonial city of Trinidad, recently declared a
UNESCO world heritage site and enjoy a visit to the magnificent Valley of the Sugar Mills. We will enjoy an afternoon in beautiful Cienfuegos, visit the theatre where tenor Mario Lanza performed and marvel at the city, the grand central square and all it’s splendor.
We will meet with artists, dancers and musicians; enjoy lectures on architecture, education and history and dine at the finest restaurants Cuba has to offer. Of course, no trip to Cuba would be complete without having time to linger over a sunset while sipping a Mojito at the famous Hotel Nacional in Havana.
